Classes for beginner Muay Thai students?

  • The Beginner Pad Work is an excellent choice for the student with absolutely no experience. This class is specifically catered to you.
  • The Boxing Fundamentals is the perfect class for beginners to develop solid punching technique, head movement and footwork.
  • The All Levels classes are a beginner friendly mixed level class.

What gear do you need for Muay Thai class?

  • Gloves are an absolute necessity for Muay Thai. Ideally students need two pairs. One for pad work and bag work and a separate pair for drilling and sparring. If money is an issue start with a smaller glove so you can develop your punching technique. For pad work, we recommend 8-12 oz gloves depending on your weight. For drilling and sparring we recommend 16-18oz gloves depending on your weight.
  • Mouthguards, wraps, shinguards and knee pads are recommended. Groin protectors and elbow pads are recommended for more advanced students.

Classes for beginner Jiu Jitsu students?

  • For white belts, we recommend starting with Gi Fundamentals or All Levels Gi classes prior to taking No Gi Fundamentals for safety reasons. The gi allows students to control their partner's landing so that everyone can learn to fall safely. The gi also adds friction and grips, which slows down the pace, allowing beginners to learn proper technique, leverage, and control rather than relying on speed or sweat. It forces technical precision, builds stronger foundational skills, and makes controlling opponents easier than in the slippery, faster-paced no-gi.
  • If you feel comfortable, understand the basic concepts of Jiu Jitsu and can roll with emotional control, you are ready to add in No Gi Fundamentals or All Levels No Gi.
  • Please note that any student lacking emotional control during training will be asked to stay in Gi Fundamentals or All Levels Gi.
  • Proper attire: White, blue and black gis only. Shorts over spats. See the uniform policy below for a more detailed description.

Who can attend the Jiujitsu Intermediate/Advanced & Advanced Classes?

  • Students ranked blue belt or above may take any class on the schedule. White belts with experience may email to request approval for advanced classes.

Youth classes?

  • We offer youth classes 7 days a week in the arts of Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, with one class a week dedicated to takedowns. The minimum age is 5 years old.
  • We do offer an introductory rate for new students. A free uniform and discounted tuition comes with a 6 month sign up.
  • Monthly tuition for the Kids program is $250 for unlimited classes. In order to maintain the integrity of the program, we need students to train consistently. There is a minimum attendance policy of 2 days of jiu jitsu a week although 3 - 4 days is preferred. There are recurring dues for a minimum of two months. No student contract is required but a 30 day notice of cancellation is required. No pauses are offered so please plan your child's enrollments according to your upcoming travel and other life commits. If your child becomes injured, we recommend cancelling immediately if you foresee a long recovery.

Is there a uniform policy?

We do prefer students to wear Workshop attire in class to promote school unity but if finances are an issue, don't stress it. There is a donation bin at the entrance with free uniforms and gear that you can check out.

We have listed our preferred class attire below:

  • Muay Thai classes: Workshop school shirt and any brand of Muay Thai shorts.
  • Gi Jiu Jitsu classes: White, Black and Blue Gi colors only. No exceptions on color. School gis are preferred but not required. We do ask that you patch non Workshop gis. Patches are available at the front desk.
  • No Gi Jiu Jitsu classes: School rashguard and any board shorts without zippers or abrasive material. Shorts over spats/tights are required.
  • If you already have an entire wardrobe of Gis, Rashguards, etc, we obviously don’t expect you to throw out your entire wardrobe but only ask that you purchase a school rash guard and gi at your earliest convenience. Gi colors must still be White ,Black or Blue for classes.

Belt system or a ranking system?

  • Our Jiu-Jitsu program follows the traditional ranking system of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the belts being: White - Blue - Purple - Brown - Black.
  • Muay Thai students will have their ‘Level’ noted on to their accounts.

Locker rooms? Showers?

We have locker rooms with daily lockers available. If you need to lock your items, please bring your own lock. We also offer monthly locker rentals. There is a shower in each locker room. We do not offer towel service. Please bring your own toiletries. We provide sandals for toilet stall use.
